Niches

Whilst Rose Regeneration covers the whole array of regeneration, we do have particular empathy and enthusiasm for Rural and Coastal Issues. Both are frequently neglected areas in terms of regeneration and both have particular and often misunderstood contexts. Some of our most pleasurable commissions have included projects connected to rural and coastal places.

Ivan and Jessica have developed national reputations in the fields of rural and coastal issues, have written extensively for a number of journals (including Local Economy, Journal of Rural Studies, Smallholder, Food Ethics Council Magazine & Coastal Regeneration Handbook), and are able to offer strong and unique insights into commissioned work.

In partnership with Ruralcity Media (and with support from the Rural Services Network), Ivan and Jessica carry out an annual 'Rural Insight' Survey, canvassing the views of more than 1300 rural residents and stakeholders across England. This Landmark Survey identifies the issues, opportunities and challenges that people face living in rural places.

Recent rural and coastal commissions include:

Preparation of Local Development Strategy for Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Fisheries Local Action Group (for Cornwall Development Company).

Understanding the capacity of Sheffield's rural economy (for Sheffield City Council).

Rural Vulnerability Index of Scottish Towns (for Scottish Agricultural College).

Assessing the impact of the economic downturn on public service delivery in rural areas (for Defra).

The “Village Hub”, a project looking at how to use ICT to deliver public services in Devon (for three District Councils).

‘The 3Rs: Rural Services, Rural Communities, Rural Economies’, one day training courses run with Nottingham Trent University on behalf of The Rural Services Network (RSN).

Evaluation of a supply chain efficiency scheme (for Pembrokeshire Produce Direct).
